The area of Castro Valley is a city located in the northern region of the state of California. It is located in the county of Alameda. It is ranked as the fifth largest unincorporated area in the state of California and is ranked 23rd overall in the nation. The estimated population of the city is around 60,000 residents and continues to grow. Originally a Spanish colony, and one that thrived with Native Americans, the area has a deep history that dates back to 1797. The area still maintains some architecture and interesting points of interest that date back to the Spanish era colonies and Native American population.

The economic picture of Castro Valley has shifted in a variety of ways in the past few decades. Originally, the area was known as a community for people to spend their nights while working in the area. Sometimes referred to as a “bedroom community” the area was flooded with employment options and jobs through the 1950's in chicken ranches, before modernity took a hold of the area. The city is near San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, and many other areas that provide work for those looking for opportunities to advance in any given profession. Some of the companies in and around the city (in neighboring cities) include, PeopleSoft Inc, At&T, Providian, BMC Software, Symantec, EMC Corporation and other large scale employers.
