The city of Sacramento is the capital of the state of California. Located in the northern part of the state, it is a large city with a growing population. The estimated population of the city is roughly 486,189 and is ranked the 7th largest city in the state of California. Sacramento is part of a greater metropolitan area that includes El Dorado, Placer, and Yolo, and was even referred to by Time Magazine as “America's most integrated city” in 2002.

The economic picture Sacramento relies heavily on service and government industry. While those are large in the area, there are smaller pieces of the economic pie, that reflect a diversity and integration that many other large cities receive. Some of the large companies in the city include Aerojet, Arno Political Consultants, Grind Hard Entertainment, Inductive automation, Unify Corporation, Tower Records, The McClatchy Company, and GenCorp, just to name a few. The unemployment rate of Sacramento is 12.5%, which is higher than the national average.
